STAR WARS Zero Company Controller Support Guide

Controller support is listed on the Steam page, and the launch FAQ now answers the two questions that mattered: whether buttons can be remapped, and whether a pad is enough on its own. The short version is yes to remapping, and keep a keyboard nearby.

Confirmed input support

Steam lists controller support as a feature, and the launch FAQ names the two pads the team tested against: the game “is mostly playable with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 controllers, but will require keyboard entry for certain text inputs.”

“Mostly playable” is the developer’s own hedge, and it is not a promise that every third-party device exposes identical prompts. Treat a non-Xbox, non-PlayStation pad as a compatibility question rather than a supported configuration.

Remapping is officially supported

This was previously unconfirmed on this page. The FAQ answers it in two sentences: “Buttons can be remapped on PC for both controller and mouse / keyboard. They can also be remapped on PlayStation and Xbox controllers on consoles.”

  • PC: remapping is available for controller and for mouse and keyboard.
  • PlayStation and Xbox: controller buttons can be remapped on console.
  • Still unpublished: the default layout itself, which actions can or cannot be rebound, and whether any input is locked.

Plan for the keyboard, especially on a couch setup

The text-input caveat is the practical planning point. A tactics game with squad naming and customization screens will ask you to type, and the FAQ says a pad will not cover those moments. If you are playing on a TV or a handheld PC, keep a keyboard within reach rather than discovering the gap mid-session — the customization guide covers where naming comes up.

The FAQ does not list which specific screens require typing, so this page does not enumerate them.

Details still without a published source

The FAQ settles compatibility and remapping. It does not publish a button map, vibration behaviour, aim assist or camera settings, or glyph choices, and neither does the store page. Those remain unasserted here until the interface or an attributable report documents them.

A safe controller checklist

When adding controller notes, identify the device, storefront, connection method, game version, and whether prompts match the hardware. Keep a compatibility report distinct from the official feature flag.

  • Record the exact controller model, and whether it is one of the two the FAQ names.
  • Note wired or wireless connection where relevant.
  • Check remapping in the settings menu before assuming a binding is fixed.
  • Do not infer keyboard bindings from a controller label.

No invented layout

Until a source shows the controls, this guide deliberately avoids publishing a made-up default layout or a claim that a particular controller is best for tactical play. The rest of the developer’s launch answers, including Steam Deck and ultrawide, are on the launch FAQ page.
