STAR WARS Zero Company Launch FAQ: Official Answers

Bit Reactor published a launch FAQ alongside the August 27, 2026 PC release. It settles a long list of questions players were still asking — EA App, New Game+, microtransactions, DLC, Steam Deck, mods, ultrawide — with first-party answers rather than inference.

The short answers

Every row below is the developer’s own answer from the launch FAQ, not a community report or an assumption drawn from the store page. The detail behind each one follows.

Official answers from the STAR WARS Zero Company launch FAQ, read September 3, 2026.

Steam native: no EA App launcher

The FAQ is unambiguous on the question that dominated the Steam forums before release: “No, Star Wars Zero Company is Steam native and does not require the EA App launcher.” Launching from Steam is the whole process.

This is a statement about the launcher requirement only. It is not a claim about EA account linking, telemetry, or any future change to distribution, and the FAQ does not address those.

No New Game+, no microtransactions, no announced DLC

These three answers travel together because they all describe what the game deliberately does not have, and because each is worded with a specific limit worth reading closely.

  • New Game+: “No, we won’t have New Game+, but players will unlock certain customization options on subsequent playthroughs.” Replaying is rewarded with cosmetics, not with carried-over progression. See the customization guide.
  • Microtransactions: “we don’t have any plans for monetization or microtransactions at this time.” The base game is a single $49.99 purchase — the editions and price guide covers what each edition includes.
  • DLC and post-launch content: “We focused on making the best game we can at launch and don’t have anything to announce right now.” That is an absence of an announcement, not a commitment either way.

Steam Deck and mods: both no at launch

The Deck answer is the more hopeful of the two. The game “will not be Steam Deck verified at launch, but if anything changes we’ll be sure to update our community.” No date, no target rating, and no statement about how it actually runs on Deck hardware — only that the Verified badge is not there.

Mods are a firmer no: “We have a lot of respect for the modding community, but there is no official mod support planned.” Read that as no first-party tools and no supported pipeline. It says nothing about whether unofficial tools exist or work, and this site does not treat third-party tools as officially supported fixes.

Ultrawide, controllers and remapping

Three display and input answers that were previously unconfirmed on this site:

The keyboard caveat is the one to plan around. “Mostly playable” with a pad plus a keyboard fallback for text entry is a normal pattern for a tactics game with naming and customization screens, but it does mean a couch or handheld setup needs a keyboard within reach. Full detail is on the controller support guide.

  • Ultrawide: “Yes, 32:9 and 21:9 ultrawide monitors are supported.”
  • Controllers: the game “is mostly playable with Xbox Series X|S and PlayStation 5 controllers, but will require keyboard entry for certain text inputs.”
  • Remapping: “Buttons can be remapped on PC for both controller and mouse / keyboard. They can also be remapped on PlayStation and Xbox controllers on consoles.”

Operations and Tactical Missions are not the same thing

The FAQ answers this directly, and it is the clearest official description of the campaign loop published so far. Both are offered each cycle at the holotable in the Den. Both can expire — but story-critical missions become obligatory after a period of time — and every cycle ends with a Tactical Mission selection that deploys your chosen squad.

Operations happen on the Galaxy Map. They can yield instant rewards while adding to the narrative, or unlock further operations and missions. Some present a dilemma and require a choice — the FAQ compares it to “choose your own adventure” — and different choices may affect character bonds and side missions.

Tactical Missions are the tactical layer. You deploy a squad to complete an objective, and story missions include a small free-roam phase in third person where you can move through the environment before the fight to gain world immersion, intel points and advantage points. The named mission types are:

For the layer each of these sits in, see the operations and Galaxy Map guide, the mission objectives guide, the Den guide and the bonds guide.

  • Sabotage
  • Combat
  • Rescue
  • Retrieval
  • Narrative missions with unique stories centered around one hero

Permadeath is on by default

The FAQ confirms permadeath “is enabled by default but can be toggled off if desired,” and encourages players to adjust the settings to suit themselves. The reasoning given is thematic: the team feels it “provides a unique experience of experiencing loss, a core theme of Star Wars, and pushing through that loss.”

The practical point for a first run is that the default is the harsher option, so it is a setting to check deliberately rather than discover. The injuries and permadeath guide and the difficulty guide cover what that changes in play.

Where the official support routes actually go

The FAQ names one destination for bugs and technical support: the EA forums section for STAR WARS Zero Company. Troubleshooting articles live on EA Help, and the team also points players to the official EA Star Wars Discord server for discussion. Reporting through those routes is more likely to reach the team than a store review.

What this FAQ does not settle

The wording matters as much as the answers, and four limits are worth stating plainly.

  • “At this time” and “right now” are not permanent. The microtransaction and DLC answers describe current plans on launch day, not a policy that cannot change.
  • No dates. Nothing here commits to a Steam Deck re-review, a patch schedule, or a content roadmap.
  • No performance measurements. The FAQ publishes specifications and targets, not benchmark results — see the PC requirements guide.
  • No console parity claim. The remapping answer names PlayStation and Xbox controllers, but the rest of the FAQ is written from the PC launch, and this page does not extend the other answers to console builds.
